Temporary Protected Status is a humanitarian protection Congress created in Section 244 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. § 1254a). It lets nationals of a designated country remain and work in the United States during a defined period when conditions in their home country — such as armed conflict or disaster — make safe return difficult. It is temporary by design and must be periodically reviewed.

What the automatic work-permit extension means

In practice, this means you can keep working and show your existing card — together with the government's published notice — as evidence that your employment authorization continues through the new date. Who this affects
